Semi-Secluded Park Bench, Monday afternoon

Marc couldn't be in the apartment, was the thing.
He didn't want to be anywhere. Marc Spector had solid method to his coping mechanisms and they all boiled down to one concept: just don't. Don't be there. Don't deal.
Only running away wasn't an option because Marc had to consider Steven. And handing the body over to Steven was definitely not an option because as bad as this week was for Marc for Steven it was going to be a thousand times worse.
No prize for guessing if that was Marc's fault, of course.
The Steven of it all was why the apartment was a no go. Too much there that was Steven, too much that was personal. Marc was trying not to deal with memories, thank you, he didn't need help with the reminders.
So he went somewhere that meant nothing to him, which was a quiet bench in the park. And he went there with his last option for coping mechanisms, which was currently contained in a paper bag wrapped bottle at his side.
Maybe if he was lucky he and Steven wouldn't wake up until Sunday.

Talk with Marc

Date: 2022-10-03 07:58 am (UTC)She had ended up in the park and then she came to a stop near a park bench when she realised that she recognised who was sitting there and she could see the brown bag, maybe Marc didn’t want company right now but she wanted to check first.
“Marc?” she said softly, hesitant as she approached.
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 08:10 am (UTC)Luckily Marc hadn't been there that long. He'd finished off what was back in the apartment, yeah, but - other than the wine which he wasn't touching - that had already been running low. This was fine.
"You okay?" he asked. Look, Liz had had her own shit time of it this year. He couldn't rule out life hadn't kicked her in the teeth again.
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 08:42 am (UTC)There was another awkward pause, “are you okay?” she asked.

Date: 2022-10-03 09:25 am (UTC)Marc had always been so supportive and helpful to her, she didn’t want to just leave, at least not yet.
“Um … if you want to talk or would like some company? I don’t have to go, I can stay here with you … um … if you’d like me to that is,” Liz offered.

Date: 2022-10-03 10:40 am (UTC)Or it was a sign she was getting better at hiding it.
She was cutting through the park when she saw who she thought was Steven sitting on a bench with a brown paper bag. Which...didn't seem like him, even after just meeting him the one time. "You're lucky the cops here are lax because I think drinking in public is illegal in Maryland."
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 02:03 pm (UTC)"Wouldn't be the first illegal thing I did," Marc told her. He squinted at her. He was pretty sure he knew who she was but couldn't be positive without tapping Steven's knowledge to be sure and, well, keeping that door firmly shut. "You're the magic one, right?"
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 02:26 pm (UTC)So, she reached out a little bit. Not prodding too hard, but just trying to figure out who she had bumped into and/or if Steven was just a really method actor preparing for a part.
"Most people call me Wanda." But 'magic one' was a pretty fair assessment.
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 02:50 pm (UTC)Unfortunately for Wanda if she was feeling around in Marc's thoughts the other thing it'd be hard not to notice was the constant, agonizing pain that belied his outwardly casual attitude.
"Wanda," Marc repeated. Yeah, he could place her now. "I know you. You're one of the useful ones."
He gestured to himself, the motion looser than it would have been if he was sober. "Marc."
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 03:13 pm (UTC)Still, she couldn't just leave the guy. "Hi, Marc. What's got you drinking in the park on a Monday afternoon?"
Just polite to ask rather than pull it right out of someone's head.

(And, sure, you could chalk it up to concern more than curiosity. She'd never admit it, but your chalking would be correct.)
(Though it was...like, a 60/40 split, there, on concern vs. curiosity.)
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 02:09 pm (UTC)It wasn't the cheapest bottle available but it definitely wasn't anything Marc had bought for the taste.
Re: Talk with Marc
Date: 2022-10-03 02:58 pm (UTC)Which. Manner of speaking, just now, but it was more a way of saying she generally liked being around Marc, who seemed like he might need to hear a compliment at the moment.

Date: 2022-10-03 07:34 pm (UTC)But on a walk he was, and when he spotted a familiar silhouette, naturally he altered course slightly to wander over. "Mr. Spector," he greeted, mildly friendly (well, for Watts) expression giving way to concern as he took in Marc's posture, the bag beside him, and the smell of liquor in the air.
Re: Time to go home
Date: 2022-10-03 07:48 pm (UTC)Marc waved a hand in Watts's direction. The gesture was meant to indicate he was fine but the lack of anything resembling coordination in the movement gave a much more honest answer.
Re: Time to go home
Date: 2022-10-03 07:52 pm (UTC)"Something is troubling you." Obviously. Watts himself was no stranger to using drink to drown one's sorrows, he could see it in the other man readily enough.
