Semi-Secluded Park Bench, Monday afternoon

Marc couldn't be in the apartment, was the thing.
He didn't want to be anywhere. Marc Spector had solid method to his coping mechanisms and they all boiled down to one concept: just don't. Don't be there. Don't deal.
Only running away wasn't an option because Marc had to consider Steven. And handing the body over to Steven was definitely not an option because as bad as this week was for Marc for Steven it was going to be a thousand times worse.
No prize for guessing if that was Marc's fault, of course.
The Steven of it all was why the apartment was a no go. Too much there that was Steven, too much that was personal. Marc was trying not to deal with memories, thank you, he didn't need help with the reminders.
So he went somewhere that meant nothing to him, which was a quiet bench in the park. And he went there with his last option for coping mechanisms, which was currently contained in a paper bag wrapped bottle at his side.
Maybe if he was lucky he and Steven wouldn't wake up until Sunday.

Re: Time to go home
Date: 2022-10-04 04:55 am (UTC)"I can't speak to what happened over the weekend," he said. Saying that maybe Marc had needed to do some things felt wrong, even as it was his best guess considering how insistent Marc had been about Steven not needing to be around for 'it'. "But I can show you the date on my telephone if you'd like?"

"Monday," he repeated gently. And then: "I'm sorry."

Date: 2022-10-04 05:26 am (UTC)Steven realized that might sound as though he'd forgotten what had just happened. "I - I know it was Marc. I'm sorry. It was kind of you to take care of him. Try to get him home."

Date: 2022-10-04 05:45 am (UTC)"Probably should," Steven agreed. He tried to stand up, any difficulty simply because he'd been kneeling on the cold ground. "Don't expect he's eaten anything. Doesn't feel like it."

Date: 2022-10-04 05:51 am (UTC)Steven took a bite because he might not feel sick from all the alcohol Marc had consumed but an empty stomach wasn't doing him any favors.
Re: Time to go home
Date: 2022-10-04 05:56 am (UTC)... Did you even know anyone else who had a pocketwatch chain to begin with?
"From me," he confirmed. He wasn't about to add that it was to keep Marc's hand occupied as he removed an empty liquor bottle, even though Steven was clearly aware he'd been drunk. "If that's not filling enough we can order something once we're home."
One of the nice things about living across the hall from your sweetheart is you could say things like that and not have to actually specify which apartment you meant.
